Invited to Bowral

After receiving some great reviews of her recent work, Suzie is off to Bowral in November. The fabulous and only recently opened gallery Ten Thousand Paces will host Inner Necessity from Saturday 15th November to Friday 28th November. The exhibition will be opened by artist Cherry Hood.

Bowral is a beautiful town located in the picturesque Southern Highlands of NSW. Famous for its association with Sir Donald Bradman, historic homes, grand estates and gardens, Bowral is also a haven for artists with a thriving arts community and galleries.

November is a perfect time to visit the area, pack a picnic lunch or eat in one of the many chic cafes that line the main street. For further details please check out the Ten Thousand Paces Gallery Facebook.

Artists Statement

“The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with objects it loves.”
Jung

The seemingly non-relationship between images intrigues me – at times there appears to be a relationship where logically there should not be one. Subject/time wise there is no link and there is no narrative.

What is that relationship?

Some images seem to naturally assert themselves no matter what space they occupy – some stand alone and carry their message and yet others need to have a connection and context in order to resonate with the viewer.

There were a number of ways to go with this challenge – theoretically, a curator would look for the connections and the flow – a photographer may look for only the very best of their images – and an artist would look for that special something that would warrant a second look. Because my experience has been in all three areas, I was interested to see the outcomes of this ‘play’ and which aspect of my experience would emerge the strongest.
